Here's DIG 2020 Autumn Newsletter: What have we been up to?


We hope you are doing well! Our DIG Team has been enjoying the crisp fall weather! Since March, the COVID-19 pandemic has altered or canceled many of our plans for 2020. However, the DIG Team has not allowed the pandemic to defeat us, we have become stronger by adding new team members, program directors, and sponsors! We have also changed our programming from in-person events to virtual, as you may already know based on the recent webinars we have hosted!

Our DIG Team has been hard at work over the last few months. We have revamped the DIG website in order to make the site more user friendly and organized. Please visit our website to check out the DIG Resource Library, webinar series, and DIG Board Members. In addition to these new website updates, we will be adding a DIG Store soon! We will be selling shirts and mugs for you to purchase on our site.

Welcome aboard newest additions to our DIG Team!

  • Brianne Burger is DIG’s Advanced Learning Director, focusing on the weekly webinars, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Kirsten Poston is DIG’s Career Advancement Director, implementing the DIG Mentorship program along with our Board at Large (BML) David Cardenas. There will be a webinar on this program scheduled Tuesday, November 10th. Stay tuned!
  • Jacob Leffler is the new DIG’s Executive Director for coordinating the internal and external operations. Both Kirsten and Jacob assist Brianne with the weekly webinars.
  • Joanna Rocha-Shenoy and Kate O’ Regan serve as BMLs. Both Jo and Kate joined the DIG team in October 2020.
  • Jeffrey Dallos is DIG’s Executive Assistant under the Career Advancement Program.
  • Paige Thompson is our new website designer and IT Operations Manager. Many thanks to Cham Le for assisting the behind with IT infrastructure on Zoom, GoToMeeting, and Microsoft Teams in order to deliver the virtual webinars since March. Since August, Paige has taken over the duties of IT support behind the scenes.

Save the date!

The 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting and Election will happen on Thursday, December 17th, from 6pm to 8pm ET. Cham and Angela will provide a recap of 2020 and they will share upcoming plans for 2021. We will also be voting for five board positions that are up for re-election during even-numbered years: Business Manager, Communication Manager, Recording Secretary, and two Board Members at Large. The Learning Management Team has been hard at work providing weekly webinars for all DIG Members and to the public. The Advanced Learning Director secured a partnership with Survivor Corps to deliver Dr. Facui’s important COVID briefing to you. Did you see our recent webinar conversation with Dr. Fauci on October 30, 2020? It was so incredible that “Good Morning America” did a story on it Saturday October 31! We are proud of our Learning Management Team and all of the amazing events they continue to deliver!

We have hosted over 19 webinars to date with a full lineup for the next two months. The webinars cover a wide array of issues that impact government employees, as well as the general public such as: access to technology while working from home, accessibility issues, managing finances, mental health awareness, the Hatch Act, and many more. All webinars are free, interpreted, and captioned. DIG would like to thank each of the presenters for their talent and expertise to advance our Deaf and Hard of Hearing workforce. DIG Resource Library

DIG BML Caitlin Ramsey Wolford created a Task Force including: Suzy Rosen Singleton, Roberta Mathers, Alison Levy, and Rebecca Halls Hasbrouck, who established the DIG Resource Library for your use! It is filled with amazing resources you may need for your personal and professional life. We have categories including: hiring with schedule A, federal agency ASL videos, retirement planning, advocacy organizations, assistive technology accommodations, federal laws, working with interpreters in the federal workplace, and more.

Membership Structure

DIG continues to grow and so does our membership base. We are changing our membership structure for 2021, in order to support general operations and programs. We currently have DIG Subscribers and DIG General Membership options. Please keep an eye out for upcoming membership renewal emails. We are excited to expand our programs and services for you and our members. So, any support or donations you can include when you renew your membership will be appreciated. DIG is classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible. You can double your donation if your company offers a matching gift program! Email development@deafingov.org to find out how.

DIG will be hosting a Virtual 5K event soon! Please keep a lookout for our email announcements and be sure to sign up!

DIG Expo

DIG Expo will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2021! Our plan will be a hybrid approach with 50% capacity in-person with the remainder of attendees participating virtually. We are complying with the CDC health guidelines regarding COVID-19. Should the CDC change recommendations for in-person events, we will shift to 100% virtual participation for the DIG Expo. Your safety is our priority. The DIG Expo will feature workshops, presentations, sponsorship booths, and so forth. More information on DIG Expo will be forthcoming.
