Deaf In Government Homepage

During times of transition and changes, it is important for government employees, contractors, and applicants to stay informed and proactive. DIG and Deaf Equality are committed to providing you with the tools and resources to deal with any discrimination or issues you may experience.

Both DIG and Deaf Equality are closely monitoring executive orders impacting federal employees, private contractors, and applicants, and will share updates when possible. In the meantime, here are proactive steps you can take to stay prepared:

Stay Informed & Maintain Your Rights

  • Work closely with your agency to check on the status of your position and duties.

  • Read all updates and announcements from your agency, your union, and your agency’s EEO office.

  • Stay informed about your ongoing requests for reasonable accommodations, including ASL interpreters, CART services, remote work arrangements, telework, travel and other resources. Check that your reasonable accommodations paperwork is current and reflects your needs.

  • Watch for changes in the agency structure for the provision of reasonable accommodation services, and with any changes, check in advance of any meetings or assignments as to the status of your reasonable accommodation requests.

  • Review your rights as a federal employee under federal laws and policies.

  • Save important documents (emails, memos, performance reviews, and resources) related to your job and accommodations.

If Your Reasonable Accommodations Fail or You Experience Discrimination

  • Notify your agency’s EEO office and file a charge of discrimination within 45 days of any act of discrimination including denial of reasonable accommodation.

  • Consult with an attorney experienced in federal workplace rights and accommodations.

  • Keep any records or documents of all failures to provide reasonable accommodations or any other discriminatory practices.
